The NZGBC is continuing to engage and establish partnerships with government and other industry organisations to advocate our green building mission.

Emissions Target

Recently the NZGBC made a submission on New Zealand’s 2050 GHG emissions target. In this submission, we commended the Government for committing to implementing an economically sound and environmentally effective climate change policy. Establishing a credible long-term emissions reduction target will form an essential part of this policy. Providing certainty to building owners, investors and developers on this critical issue will help drive future-proofed investments, particularly due to the long cycles associated with building development, upgrade and ownership.

However, we believe that the current Government strategy towards climate change is missing a major opportunity to reduce New Zealand’s emissions and the cost burden for New Zealand from the ETS.
