Greenstar NZ Industrial Rating Tool

The latest version, updated 01 March 2010

IMPORTANT:  We have identified some loss of functionality in our Excel tools due to versioning of Microsoft Office - we are currently looking to rectify this and appreciate your patience whilst these fixes are taking place.

Thank you very much to everyone who provided feedback on the PILOT version of the new Green Star - Industrial 2009 tool. Click here for a Summary of Changes document.

Green Star – Industrial 2009 is the latest rating tool to be added to the suite of Green Star  rating tools from the NZGBC.  The Industrial rating tool assesses the environmental attributes of new industrial buildings as well as additions to, and major refurbishments of, existing industrial buildings throughout New Zealand.

Building owners, developers and consultants (architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, ESD consultants etc) can use the tool to influence the design of industrial buildings, enabling these stakeholders to minimise the environmental impacts of their developments and to capitalise on, and receive recognition for, their design initiatives.

Eligibility

For a building to be eligible for a rating under Green Star – Industrial 2009, 80% of the building’s gross floor area (GFA) must be a combination of industrial and office space. In addition, a minimum of 60% of the GFA must be for industrial purposes.  This is to ensure that the tool operates specifically to address the unique needs of industrial buildings.

Within the Green Star – Industrial tool, industrial purposes are defined as: manufacturing and maintenance facilities, storage warehouses, production/process plants (e.g. agricultural processing facilities, fully enclosed waste treatment plants, or wineries) and IT services (e.g. data centres).

Technical Manuals

Technical Manuals for the new Green Star - Industrial 2009 rating tool will be available to purchase from 23 July 2009, for $450 for member companies, and $550 for non-members. Email office@nzgbc.org.nz to order yours.

Pilot Project

The Green Star - Industrial tool was developed thanks to sponsorship funding from Goodman.

Goodman’s CourierPost building at Highbrook is a PILOT project for the new Green Star – Industrial rating tool. We look forward to providing you with information about how this building acheived a Green Star - Industrial rating.
