Maintain your qualifications

When you become qualified through the NZGBC under one of the rating tools, there are requirements to ensure your qualification remains up to date. This maintains the integrity of the tools by ensuring that professionals actively working on projects have current, up-to-date knowledge and experience.

Your status can be maintained by paying the renewal fee and, for GSAPs and Homestar Assessors, completing FE points. While there are no requirements for FE points for Homestar and Green Star Practitioners, they will be required to undertake refresher training when a major tool update is released.

Green Star Renewals

Green Star renewals are due every two years. You will be emailed an invoice one month before your qualification is due to expire. GSAPs are required to complete 10 FE points in order to be eligible for renewal; see FE points page for more detail.

HomeFit Assessor

HomeFit renewals are due every year. You will be emailed an invoice one month before your qualification is due to expire. Maintaining the qualification is essential for your app subscription, if you fail to pay your renewal, access to the assessor app will be denied.

While there are no requirements for FE points for HomeFit Assessors, all professionals will be required to undertake refresher training when a major tool update is released.

Changing to Practitioner Status

Green Star Accredited Professionals and Homestar Assessors who choose not to continue their status can instead switch to being Practitioners. Please contact us if you wish to make this arrangement.

Status Lapse

If your accreditation lapses, you may renew within a one month period at no additional cost. If your accreditation has lapsed for longer than two months, please contact us to discuss your options. Additional fees may apply.

Recognition of overseas qualifications

Our commercial building rating tools are closely aligned with tools used in other countries (notably Australia), so we recognise the qualifications of professionals who are accredited in these.

Green Star Accredited Professionals (GSAPs)

NZGBC currently recognises Australian and South African Green Star Accredited Professionals, and allows active GSAPs from both countries to obtain NZ Green Star Accredited Professional status without attending the training courses.

However, there are a few criteria that need to be met before we can accredit you in New Zealand. You will need to:

1. Provide us a copy of your current GSAP accreditation
2. Provide evidence of 2 projects you have worked on in the past 2 years
3. Pay an accreditation fee which validates your qualification for two years. The fee for this is $250 for members and $350 for non-members, excl GST.

NABERS / NABERSNZ

Active Australian NABERS Accredited Assessors may obtain a NABERSNZ accreditation without attending training courses. The following criteria need to be met before we can accredit you in New Zealand. You will need to:

1. Supply evidence of a current NABERS qualification
2. Purchase and complete the NABERSNZ Assessor exams ($330)

Upon successful completion of the exam, you will need to pay the $850 biannual accreditation fee.
