Climate Related Disclosure Project

Progress update for the Construction and Property Sector

Te Kāwai Ārahi Pūrongo Mōwaho, the External Reporting Board (XRB), has been tasked by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) to develop climate disclosure standards for the New Zealand market, build capability and influence compliance towards the first reporting deadline. The above-mentioned Act gives the XRB a mandate to issue climate standards and authoritative notices (together known as the ‘climate-related disclosure framework’) in December 2022, and the Climate Reporting Entities (CREs) will be required to make disclosures alongside wider year end reporting from January 2023 at the earliest.

To develop a high degree of reporting congruency within sectors, the XRB is now encouraging collaboration on climate related scenario analysis. The New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) has been selected to create such a programme of work for the property and construction sectors.
