A case for sustainable healthcare

'The case for sustainable healthcare' is a brand new report released in late September 2018. It examines the huge benefits that greening New Zealand’s healthcare buildings will bring to Kiwis.

The report was developed with Green Building Council of Australia. It makes the case for improved buildings for management, staff, patients and New Zealand. The report includes recent research, case studies and quotes.

Green health buildings are

  • more cost effective
  • better places to heal
  • better places to work
  • better for the community
  • future proofed & more attractive investments
  • can contribute to NZs emissions reduction target

‘We would very much like to work in healthy, well lit, energy efficient hospital buildings. I think most healthcare professionals would.

All New Zealand healthcare buildings should be rated to Green Star to help improve the value we get from buildings as long term investments and to create future environments in which our patients, families and staff thrive.’

David Galler, Intensive Care Consultant,
