#WGBW2019 PluggedIn webinars

Monday, 23 September 12 - 12.45 pm

Speaker: Jeff Vickers - Technical Manager thinkstep Australasia

Title: Under Construction: Hidden emissions and untapped potential of buildings for New Zealand’s 2050 zero carbon goal

Summary: Jeff Vickers from thinkstep will dive deeply into the recent report- Under Construction: Hidden emissions and untapped potential of buildings for New Zealand’s 2050 zero carbon goal, exploring the impact that building materials will have on the effort to achieve a net-zero carbon building stock at the national level.

The published findings, combined with earlier research revealed that New Zealand’s built environment is responsible for belching out approximately 20 percent of the country’s carbon emissions. The newer report found that the key materials contributing to embodied GHG emissions in New Zealand’s buildings are steel and concrete, which contribute more than 50% of the carbon footprint of both residential and non-residential construction (excluding fit-out).

Jeff will also talk to the collaborative effort that will enable us to achieve or exceed the 40% decarbonisation potential identified in this report.

Wednesday, 25 September 12 - 12.45 pm

Speaker: Adrian Kerr – R&D and Compliance Manager at Temperzone Ltd.

Title: Pathway to low carbon future with HVAC in buildings

Summary: Not only is HVAC the largest consumer of energy in most commercial buildings, the refrigerants commonly used are extremely potent GHG emissions contributors. The environmental impact of HVAC and services on the lifetime energy use and emissions of buildings is therefore becoming increasingly recognised. Whilst regulators have focused on the efficiency of individual products, the integration of the different energy systems within a building perhaps offers the next step change in reducing building energy usage. New energy technologies, controls platforms and variable capacity refrigeration systems offers a platform of choice to better design and greatly reduce the environmental cost of comfort heating and cooling.

Join us to discover the impact of legislative and technological changes on reducing energy consumption and contribute towards a zero carbon (carbon neutral) future.

Friday, 27 September 12 - 12.45 pm

Speakers: Alex Reiche, Building Excellence Group and Matthew Holdich, Senior Product Manager Home Loans

Title: ANZ Healthy Homes campaign - Homestar and HomeFit

Summary: The ANZ Healthy Home campaign has increased the awareness of healthier homes in Aotearoa. Solutions to ensure we are living in healthier environments include both HomeFit - a simple check of the health of older homes, and Homestar - the standard our familes deserve for newly built homes. How do you take advantage of the preferential morgage rate for Homestar certifed homes, and, use HomeFit in older homes to guide improvements needed, so we deliver heathier homes for all of Aotearoa?

This webinar will give guidance for both builders working with clients, and home owners wanting to take up the ANZ Healthy Home loan package at various stages in the design and build process. It will also highlight the key differences and challenges of working with older homes and where HomeFit can assist.
