Pathway to low carbon future with HVAC in buildings

Not only is HVAC the largest consumer of energy in most commercial buildings, the refrigerants commonly used are extremely potent GHG emissions contributors. The environmental impact of HVAC and services on the lifetime energy use and emissions of buildings is therefore becoming increasingly recognised. Whilst regulators have focused on the efficiency of individual products, the integration of the different energy systems within a building perhaps offers the next step change in reducing building energy usage. New energy technologies, controls platforms and variable capacity refrigeration systems offers a platform of choice to better design and greatly reduce the environmental cost of comfort heating and cooling.
