What are our NZGBC Future Thinkers up to?
01 July 2020
Our NZGBC Future Thinkers have been working hard to stay connected online and keep the momentum going throughout the COVID-19 Lockdown.
Now that restrictions have lifted, we’ve resumed our regular morning catch ups as a place for kōrero, connecting, and getting inspired. Our next Coffee Catch Ups are in Auckland 8 July 8-9.30 am at The Lunchroom and Wellington 15 July 7.30-9 am at The Lido Cafe.
Some highlights of the last couple of months include:
An online workshop on using LCAQuick hosted by one of our Future Thinkers, Jarred Butler. Jarred walked us through using the tool from BRANZ to complete a life cycle assessment on a building. The recording of the tutorial will be made available as a resource for our Future Thinkers members.
Coffee Catch Up online edition! We got on Zoom with our Future Thinkers from around Aotearoa and reflected together on how lockdown changed the way we experience the built environment. For some of our members this was the first time they had met each other, and it was fantastic to see the kōrero flow between our students and young professionals.
Tessa Meyer and Kate Boylan, our Future Thinker of the Year for 2020 and 2019 addressed the nation as panellists for Vision Week.
“Our massive investment in infrastructure will be so important for our recovery, not only through job creation but by improving the lives of people for generations to come. I’d love to live in a country where everyone has access to healthy, resource efficient homes and workplaces, where we can walk and cycle safety, live in vibrant neighbourhoods with amenities, fresh food, jobs and green space on our doorsteps.” – Tessa Meyer on the Spinoff
Tessa was also a brilliant representative for NZGBC Future Thinkers as part of the NZGBC panel discussion on Building a better, healthier, greener Aotearoa post COVID-19 where she spoke alongside Kevin Hague, head of Forest and Bird, and top economist Shamubeel Eaqub.
We look forward to seeing what the rest of the year will bring for our Future Thinkers!
