Green buildings firmly on the election agenda


This year, more people than ever before attended our World Green Building Week events, which shows the large and growing momentum behind our movement. This momentum for green buildings and healthy homes is being reflected in the policy announcements of our political parties in the runup to the election, in a way we haven’t seen in previous elections.

World first: NZ financial sector to report on climate risks

In what is a huge move for New Zealand, banks, asset managers and insurance companies will have to disclose their climate-related risks according to last month's policy announcement. This is a very big deal.


Building for Climate Change: NZGBC submission

The government's Building for Climate Change programme is a huge opportunity to change the Building Code and improve our buildings. So be sure to make a submission on the proposed reforms ahead of the 11 October deadline. If you're looking for inspiration, check out our submission. 


Annual Green Building Photo Competition is now open

During Covid-19 restrictions we all had a stark lesson on adapting to change, embracing the importance of having a safe, comfortable place to live, healthy green spaces, and strong communities to support one another. This year we are looking for images that capture these themes and demonstrate what makes our communities great places to live, work and play. Student and open categories will be judged by award-winning architect Patrick Clifford and acclaimed photographer David St-George. Entries by 1 November 2020.

All members are invited to our AGM, to hear about plans, progress, and meet other green building advocates. Nomination packs will be emailed next week to your membership key person with details about board elections. Book your place now at this year's AGM hosted by Bayleys in Auckland on 26 November. 


Government's message to the sector to act on climate

The announcement that 138 Government departments and agencies will have to assess the greenhouse gas emissions from their new building projects sends a strong message to the sector to start acting on climate.
