Thousands of homes to have carbon pollution levels slashed under revamped Homestar green home scheme

Thousands of new New Zealand homes could be built to be much more climate-friendly, as Homestar, the green home certification scheme, relaunches this week. Under the new version of Homestar, all homes aiming for a green home rating will now have to prove they have lower carbon pollution compared to an average new home.  

A window to the future – 5 Green Star rating showcases sustainable industrial design

Last week we were lucky to check out the Profile Group Hautapu Facility as part of our Green Speak Waikato Site Tour. During the evening we were thrilled to have the opportunity to present PGL with the project’s 5 Green Star Design certificate – an excellent achievement for what is a fantastic green project.         Framework Guidelines on the right to a decent home in Aotearoa - Human Rights Commission

        Te Kahu Tika Tangata / Human Rights Commission has this week launched Framework Guidelines on the Right to a Decent Home in Aotearoa and announced it will hold a national inquiry into housing. The 48-page guidelines are built on values such as fairness and manaakitanga (respect), the United Nations ‘decency’ housing principles, successive governments’ international promises, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.         Over the past weeks, we’ve been working with Registered Master Builders Association across Aotearoa to raise awareness of recent developments in sustainable building and increase understanding of Homestar in raising the standards of our new homes.

          Government forgoes $6million with green building policy

          Using the Official Information Act, we uncovered a document showing that the Government's decision to enact a less ambitious policy for reducing emissions from buildings could see it lose out on millions of dollars in energy savings and averting tens of thousands of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions

          2021 Aotearoa SDG Summit, Ōtautahi

          Under the theme ‘Collaboration for Systemic Change’, the 2021 SDG Summit is a two-day conference combining concurrent sessions, workshopping, activations, creativity, sector-based kōrero, a community feast-style dinner in the central city, and field trips to see the SDGs in action around Greater Christchurch. The Summit will be based from the University of Canterbury campus.

          NZGBC now part of the Christchurch Antarctic Network 

          We are now proud members of the Christchurch Antarctic Network - a platform to tell Antarctic stories and share innovation with International Antarctic Programmes. We have worked with Antarctica New Zealand to build a custom Green Star tool to help create a sustainable redevelopment of Scott Base.
