Senior Project Engineer
Ian has worked for Holmes since 2007, following three years working in the United Kingdom and is a member of the Senior Management Team in the Holmes Consulting Hamilton office.
Ian has a significant interest in civic and institutional structures, along with restoration of historic buildings and sustainable design. He has worked on high profile projects in London, including concept designs for a new National Aquarium in London and upgrade works on a listed building in Regent Street. In New Zealand, Ian has been involved in the most significant upgrade to the Waikato Hospital Campus in the last 50 years, the construction of a new Events Centre in Tauranga, as well as the upgrade of several listed buildings in the Waikato.
Ian has directly relevant experience of working in and around existing operating medical facilities and what is needed to keep a hospital facility operational at all times. He also has an understanding of the performance requirements demanded by a hospitals and other emergency response facilities and how vitally important it is to get the design and detailing right to ensure appropriate post-disaster performance.
Having been involved in upgrades and restoration works on historic buildings in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Ian has experienced a variety of techniques in working with historic construction material, and assessing, restoring, strengthening and developing in and around existing structural and architectural forms.
Ian has a passion for sustainability and is a senior member of the sustainable design team at Holmes. Ian is also founder and chairman of the Waikato Forum, an NZGBC initiative that brings sustainable design education events to the Waikato.
