Designed as their family home, Team Green Architects Sian Taylor and Mark Read are collaborating with DCD to build a 9 Homestar built rated home that is also a certified Passive House. Both companies have an ethos of designing and building high-performing homes.
Located in the exclusive subdivision of Threepwood in Queenstown, the land holds special significance as it abuts Mark’s grandfather’s farm, where he remembers helping out as a boy with the lambs.
The home is being built in two stages. The First Stage, currently under construction, features two bedrooms and a small studio work space on the second floor.
Designed to achieve Passive House Plus Certification, this house will have super insulated walls and triple glazed European windows. The house is built using NZSIPs (prefabricated Structurally insulated panels). These panels are pre-cut for all openings.
The house will encompass some Smart technology for a combined Balanced Heat Exchange, with a Heat Pump Domestic Hot Water and PV System, to greatly reduce energy bill and be self-sufficient if need be.
Other features that will contribute towards the high Homestar rating are WELS rated tapware, native planting, stormwater management and the use of sustainable materials, such as Terra Lana insulation and Resene paints.
"Working alongside designers, like Team Green, who are equally committed to building the best performing homes is such a rewarding collaboration. Getting PH certified and Homestar rated is a fantastic endorsement/validation that we are succeeding in achieving the intended excellent results.” says Dennis Dowling of DCD Ltd.
Currently under construction, fingers crossed the family will be moving in before the winter.
