EcoSoft floor tiles reducing plastic waste

30 July 2019

Floorspace Ltd press release August 2019:

Eight million metric tons of plastic enters the ocean each year. If this trend continues, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. It is estimated that plastic kills millions of marine animals every year and with nearly a million plastic beverage bottles sold every minute, how is this going to change?

Carpets Inter have a target of 1 billion recycled plastic bottles by 2025

As part of ongoing triple bottom line led business practices, Floorspace Ltd, exclusive distributors of Carpets Inter carpet tiles into New Zealand, is proud to announce the introduction of EcoSoft carpet tiles to New Zealand.

Ecosoft carpet tiles marks a new era in the development of high-performance and environmentally friendly carpet tiles. A cushion backed carpet tile with great acoustic properties, the Ecosoft backing is made from 80% post-consumer plastic bottles and 5% post-industrial PET. Ecosoft has diverted over 700 million PET bottles from landfill and oceans since its creation and has a target of over 1 billion plastic bottles by 2025.

In addition to the reduced environmental impact of recycling the plastic bottles for all Ecosoft carpet tiles, Carpets Inter will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the Upstream range to The Ocean Cleanup non-profit organisation.

The Ocean Cleanup Great Pacific Garbage Patch collection system.

The eye-catching Upstream comprises two distinct designs each of which is available in five colourways. The designs are appropriately named Ebb and Flow, evoking The Ocean Cleanup’s ongoing mission of using deep sea currents to rid the world’s oceans of nearly 18 billion pounds of plastic accumulation each year.
