Future Thinker of the Year

We're thrilled to announce Eloise Blewden as the 2022 Future Thinker of the Year!

Future Thinker of the Year is awarded to a student or recent graduate passionate about green building who demonstrates leadership and knowledge about driving change in Aotearoa. Whether you're a researcher, activist, student, or work in the sustainable building space, it's a chance for us to help amplify your voice and provide a platform to make a real difference across our built environment.

There was a brilliant pool of applicants this year with some incredible passion on display, and mahi being done out there in our universities, institutions and workplaces. From the applicants, six were shortlisted: Zara Balador, Eloise Blewden, Megan Burfoot, Jasmine Fletcher, Kaito Paetz, and Kim Mi Yeoh.

After submitting their lightning talk videos, our judges selected four finalists: Eloise Blewden, Megan Burfoot, Jasmine Fletcher, and Kim Mi Yeoh.

Each presented to our judges Warner Brunton, Fiona Short, Sam Archer and Meredith Dale at the awards evening held at Mott MacDonald's Auckland office on 26 May 2022.

At the end of the night Eloise Blewden was crowned the Future Thinker of the Year for 2022

“I’m absolutely thrilled to receive the award,” Eloise said.

“There are so many opportunities to collaborate with organisations like NZGBC, to further embed sustainability in our university courses. I’m excited to work with the Future Thinkers network and the other finalists and help inspire change for our students and young people entering the industry.”

We can’t wait to work with Eloise, and indeed all our finalists, to help champion their ideas. We’re fortunate to have such brilliant young people coming through and we’re thrilled to help provide a platform for them to learn, collaborate, and help build a better Aotearoa.

As the Future Thinker of the Year, Eloise will have the chance to present and participate in numerous events and speaking engagements, including the upcoming Sustainable Housing Summit.

Previous winners include urban strategist Meredith Dale, sustainability lead Tessa Meyer and sustainability engineer Kate Boylan

A huge thank you to our Future Thinker sponsors
