Homestar assesses new homes, from stand-alone houses of all styles to multi-unit buildings. Everyone from tenants to property developers can improve home performance and sustainability.
Homeowners who are building new homes or property developers, will find value in a Homestar certified rating. This independent, comprehensive assessment is carried out by a trained Homestar Assessor. All Homestar Assessors are experienced industry professionals with a background in sustainability, building and/or auditing.
The Assessor views design documents or visits a completed project, and checks the work against a set of sustainability benchmarks. Their assessment is then audited by NZGBC’s technical team.
A Practitioner or Assessor may also assist you with design decisions and can provide you with an indicative Design rating. (A Practitioner can provide technical guidance but cannot carry out an assessment.)
A project can achieve a Homestar rating at two stages.
- Design – this rating assesses the full and final plans.
- Built – this rating occurs after a home is constructed. It certifies that the features in the Design rating have been fully implemented.
A certified rating is proof of a home’s sustainability and performance credentials, and will increase a home or project’s value. It’s more cost effective to find a Homestar Assessor and start incorporating sustainability at the beginning of a project’s design stage.
