Victoria University: Bringing life back to the heart of a campus

The Hub project, based in the heart of Victoria University of Wellington’s Kelburn Campus, set out to provide a central focal point that maximises the integration of the surrounding built form, structure and services elements using an integrated design approach. The building services and utilisation of daylight in particular, have been integrated to support and emphasise the architectural vision for the space.

Chris Dunlop, Technical Director - Buildings at Beca discussed how the Hub project transformed a completely underutilised semi-open ‘quad’ space in the centre of the Kelburn Campus site into a warm, welcoming and well-connected heart of the campus.

Chris also discussed the numerous green building elements that are incorporated in the finished building; enhanced building thermal envelope, mixed mode ventilation system, passive structural cooling, displacement ventilation, heat recovery chillers and extensive use of daylighting. • Gordon Barratt, Director/Owner, LGSC Ltd
  • Warren McGregor, CEO, PrefabAus
  • Kelly Gay, Executive Dean of Trades and Technology, UCOL.
